Cultural heritage training course to open today

AMMAN (JT) — A cultural heritage training course for 15 Iraqi officials working in areas related to of excavation, conservation, preservation, environment and management of archaeological sites starts today in Amman. The course, to last until Oct. 6, is organised by the Japan International Cooperation Agency and the Department of Antiquities/Iraq in cooperation with Germany, France and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation. This programmm aims “to have the cultural heritage sites managed in a very appropriate way and also to upgrade the technology for preservation and management of cultural sites,” a JICA statement said. According to the statement, five Jordanian trainees are to join their Iraqi counterparts in the cours, which will have seven trainers and experts from Japan, three from Germany, two from France and several from UNESCO.
