Kingdom's delegation
joins UN team charting convention on rights of people with disabilities
An official Jordanian delegation joined a special UN committee meeting in New
York this week to continue work on charting a comprehensive international
convention for the rights of people with disabilities.
The 12-day session, which opened at the UN headquarters on Monday, is the sixth
to be held by the ad hoc committee overseeing the work and progress of the draft
convention.
Jordan first took steps to prevent discriminatory practices against the
country's disabled minorities in 1993, after adopting the Law for the Welfare of
Disabled Persons (LWDP).
The law provided this segment with a mores socially cohesive system for their
participation and integration, including their rights to mobility and
transportation.
