King Stresses the Necessity of Crystallizing Arab Position to Deal with Lebanese Crisis
Amman, Aug. 3 (Petra) -- His Majesty King
Abdullah II reaffirmed the importance of crystallizing a unified Arab stance to
deal with the current crisis in Lebanon and achieve an immediate ceasefire to
avoid more killing and destruction in Lebanon.
During a meeting on Thursday with Secretary General of the Arab League Amr Musa,
the King pointed to Jordan's continued calls, since the start of the crisis, for
formulating a unified Arab stance towards challenges facing the Arab nation.
'' The deteriorating situation caused by the Israeli aggression on Lebanese
towns and villages led to creating a tragedy for the Lebanese people,'' the King
said.
His Majesty also briefed Musa on Jordan's political and diplomatic contacts at
all levels to end the crisis, noting to the Kingdom's continued efforts to
alleviate the suffering of the Lebanese people as well as the relief airlift
between Amman and Beirut designed to send humanitarian and medical assistance to
Lebanon.
In this regard, The King pointed that Jordan's efforts will continue in
cooperation and coordination with the countries that desire to send aid to
Lebanon.
Musa, for his part, highlighted efforts of the Arab League at all levels to end
the current crisis in Lebanon.
The meeting was attended by Director of King's Office Basem Awadallah, King's
Special Advisor Farouq Qasrawi and Foreign Minister Abdel Ilah Al Khatib.
