Project to ease travel
procedures at airport
Prime minister calls for removing red, coordinate various departments'
efforts
AMMAN (Petra) — An ongoing 12-week project at the
Queen Alia International Airport aims to ease travel procedures and is due to
finish in September.
According to director of firm charged with carrying out the project, Waleed
Mahmoud Abu Obeid, 90 per cent of obstacles impeding work processes and facing
travellers at the airport are procedural and do not require any funds to solve
them.
Briefing Prime Minister Adnan Badran on the project, Abu Obeid said the
remaining 10 per cent require limited investments to remove them, noting that
these include Baggage and Cargo Handling Systems and Equipment as well as
screening and scanning equipment in the arrivals area.
The prime minister was visiting the airport to check on the progress of the
project and to get familiarised with procedures facing passengers.
Badran stressed the need for the various department's at the airport to unify
their efforts and ease travel procedures, “especially that the airport is
considered a main gate to the Kingdom”.
Chairing a meeting of directors of various departments at the airport, Badran
stressed that all of these departments should have one point of reference to
coordinate all work processes and eliminate red tape in an efficient manner
running parallel to efficient security measures.
The premier also directed the airport's officials to reconsider the mechanism
for granting permanent permits allowing holders to enter the airports various
terminals and facilities.
