Labour minister
concludes US visit
Washington (JT) — Minister of Labour Bassem Salem recently concluded a two-day
visit to Washington during which he met with US government officials, apparel
industry leaders and international trade bodies. “The trip was indeed very
productive and we look forward to working together with the US on bilateral
projects in the near future,” said Salem. His visit focused on the ministry’s
actions to ensure safe, fair, and equitable labour conditions, including
discussion of specific steps taken to address recently identified labour
violations in Jordan. He also briefed US officials on the ministry’s action plan
to improve the necessary monitoring mechanisms to ensure that all participants
in the industry respect and adhere to labour laws and international labour
standards.
