Tourists to Baptism Site
increase
AMMAN (Petra) — A total of 3,600 tourists visited the Baptism Site on the banks
of the Jordan River last month, of whom 70 per cent came from Europe and the US.
Dia Madani from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities who is in charge of the
site, said visitors are increasing in number despite high temperatures. He said
tourism and religious sites are attracting growing numbers of tourists,
attributing the increase partly to the improvement of the facilities and the
media campaign to market Jordan's sites abroad.
