Jordan will not
participate in UNIFIL forces — Judeh
AMMAN (JT) — Government Spokesperson Nasser Judeh reiterated on Tuesday that the
country would not participate in the international peacekeeping forces in
southern Lebanon, but would maintain its support and assistance to the Lebanese
government. Under UN Security Council Resolution 1701, adopted Friday, the
United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) is to swell from its current
1,990-strong force to 15,000 international troops. Meanwhile, referring to the
Arab foreign ministers’ meeting next week, Judeh said that there are many
binding issues in the region to be discussed and resolved to ensure stability
and peace in this area.
