Senate President meets Iraqi parliament speaker
Amman, Aug. 17 (Petra) Senate President Zeid
Rifai on Thursday reaffirmed Jordan's support to Iraq's national reconciliation
efforts as well as the country's efforts to restore stability and security.
"Jordan is keen on providing all kinds of support to rebuild Iraqi institutions
and help them regain their vital role in building the state and serving the
Iraqi people," Rifai said during a meeting with Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mahmoud
al-Mashadani and his delegation. He also hailed close historical ties linking
Jordan with Iraq and hoped Iraq would overcome the present crisis and put an end
to all forms of violence.
During the meeting, Rifai gave a briefing on the legislative role of Parliament
and development of democratic life in Jordan.
Mashadani commended Jordan's strong relations with the Arab world and its
contestant support to Arab and Islamic causes, particularly its continued
assistance to the Iraqi people.
In his remarks, Mashadani referred to the projected council of union in Iraq, an
umbrella organization expected to embrace representatives of all Iraq sects.
