Islamic conference to
open Saturday
AMMAN (Petra) — Some 80 intellectuals representing 40 Arab and Islamic countries
will participate in the 13th Al al Bayt Foundation for Islamic Thought
Conference to open on Saturday in the capital. The three-day event will focus on
issues related to Islamic shura (mutual consultation) and democracy.
Participants will also discuss reforms in the Arab and Islamic worlds. Al al
Bayt was established in 1980 by a Royal Decree to reactivate Islamic culture,
conduct studies and research to preserve Muslim identity and study Islamic
thought.
