Fayez Meets Palestinian Prime Minister
Amman, Aug. 19(Petra)-- Prime Minister, Faisal
Fayez, received on Thursday Palestinian Prime Minister, Ahmad Quraei, who
conveyed the regards of Palestinian President, Yasser Arafat, to King Abdullah
II, the Jordanian people and government.
During the meeting, which was attended by Foreign Minister, Marwan Muasher,
Fayez stressed the importance of continuing coordination between Jordan and the
Palestinian National Authority (PNA) . '' We are interested in pushing the peace
process and establishing the viable, independent Palestinian state,'' said Fayez
who also stressed that the recent statements of His Majesty King Abdullah II
have clarified some points regarding the establishment of the Palestinian state
and refugees' right of return and compensation.
In addition, Fayez stressed that Jordan opposes the Israeli separation wall,
which prevents the establishment of Palestinian state and thus affects the
Jordanian interests.
On his part, Quraei affirmed the importance of having strong
Jordanian-Palestinian ties based on mutual respect.
"We, in the PNA, do not have a negative stand towards Jordan," said Quraei, who
also noted that the PNA's stand towards King Abdullah's statement is clear and
understood, and what have been reported by some Palestinian groups, do not
represent the PNA.
In press statements after the meeting, Quraei noted that his visit comes within
consultation between the PNA and Jordan, stressing the importance of
consultation and coordination between the two sides at this time.
