'Jordan does not supply US
forces in Iraq with military equipment'
By Jamal Shteiwi, Jordan Times
AMMAN, August 19 - Foreign Minister Marwan Muasher on Wednesday refuted claims
that Jordan was supplying the US forces in Iraq with military equipment.
Muasher was responding to an Internet statement posted by a group linked to
militant Abu Mussab Zarqawi threatening to “kill officials and foreigners in
Jordan unless Amman stops sending truckloads of supplies to the US army in Iraq
within a week.”
The top diplomat said the government is taking all necessary security measures
to protect the Kingdom and citizens, noting that there is “an arrangement” with
the Iraqi authorities to protect Jordanian drivers shuttling between Amman and
Baghdad.
“Jordan will always stand by Iraq until it restores peace and security,” he
stressed.
Several groups have issued statements in recent weeks threatening countries to
stop collaborating with the US forces in Iraq. Armed groups in Iraq have also
kidnapped several foreigners, including Jordanians.
