Khatib meets Japanese parliamentary delegation

AMMAN (Petra) — Foreign Minister Abdul Ilah Khatib on Saturday held talks with the head of the Japanese Parliamentary delegation Kuki Chimura and voiced the importance of the coming visit to Japan by His Majesty King Abdullah.

Khatib said Jordan appreciates the distinguished and strong ties between Jordan and Japan which stem from the strong relations between the Royal families of both countries.

He also expressed gratitude to the Japanese government for its economic aid to Jordan.

The two sides also discussed the latest developments in the peace process and Jordan's role in helping push the peace process forward.

Khatib said Jordan is giving due importance to the implementation of the Wye River agreement in order to restore confidence between the parties concerned.

He also stressed the need for attaining progress on the Syrian-Israeli and Lebanese-Israeli tracks in order to reach a just and durable peace in the region.

Khatib also briefed the delegation about the difficulties in the region and how they affect Jordan's economy.

The head of the Japanese delegation voiced his country's support for Jordan, expressing appreciation of the Kingdom's great efforts in attaining peace in the Middle East region.

Earlier, Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Abdul Hadi Majali received the Japanese delegation.
