Jordan's trade gap drops 5%
AMMAN (R) Jordan's trade deficit widened by 25 per cent in May to
JD141.6 million ($200) million as imports of consumer and intermediate goods rose and
exports were little changed, the Central Bank bulletin said.
The cumulative January-May trade deficit was down five per cent to JD642.8 million from
JD681.3 million.
Meanwhile, the inflation rate fell to 3.8 per cent in the year to June from 3.9 per cent
in the year to May, according to Department of Statistics cost of living index figures
released in the Central Bank bulletin.
The index fell to 123.9 points in June from 125.5 points in May. In June 1997, it stood at
119.4 points.
