Land and Survey Department registers documents of Arab property in Palestine

AMMAN (J.T.) — The Department of Land and Survey is collecting and documenting registers and documents related to real estate belonging to Arabs — both Jordanians and Palestinians — in Palestinian territories.

Department sources, quoted by Al Dustour Arabic daily, said on Wednesday that the project, financed by the treasury, is expected to be completed in one year.

According to the sources, the department decided to undertake this mission for the sake of keeping records stored in the computers for future reference, noting that keeping documented facts on lands and other real estate is bound to offer valuable service to researchers and landowners.

Meanwhile, Jordan and the Palestinian National Authority on Wednesday signed an executive programme on cooperation in cultural fields for the years 2000-2002.

The programme, which is in implementation of an agreement on culture and information concluded by the two sides in 1995, paves the way for the exchange of publications, historical documents and cooperation among Jordanian and Palestinian writers.

The programme, which was signed by the Ministry of Culture Secretary General Salah Jarrar and his Palestinian counterpart Yahya Yakhlef, provides for the exchange of visits by artists, organisations of cultural exhibitions, book displays and traditional handicraft exhibitions and cooperation between institutes that care for children's culture and libraries.

After signing the programme, Jarrar said Jordan is keen to promote cultural cooperation and is ready to offer the Palestinian personnel training at Jordanian institutions that support cultural activities and education.
