G-20 website highlights diversified information about member states
The group has a wide geographical representation from 3 continents

AMMAN, August 27 (JT) - Marking the first anniversary of the establishment of the Group of 20 (G-20), the Brazilian ministry of external relations has inaugurated a website of the group, a statement from the embassy of Brazil in Amman said on Thursday.

The website can be accessed through the address www.g-20.mre.gov.br. It provides information on its member countries, their history, proposals, statistics and press communiqués.

According to the website, the G-20 of developing countries, established on Aug. 20, 2003, is committed to the program set out in the Doha Development Agenda, in which agriculture is the focus. It seeks to address distortions and restrictions affecting agriculture trade, such as export subsidies.

In addition, the group will work to develop operational and effective special treatment mechanisms with a view to addressing food security and livelihood concerns of rural populations.

The group has a wide geographical representation from three continents: Five from Africa (Egypt, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania and Zimbabwe), six from Asia (China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Philippines and Thailand) and eight from Latin America (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Mexico, Paraguay and Venezuela and Guatemala).

The G-20 see themselves as consolidating as an essential interlocutor in agricultural negotiations due to its consistency in agriculture production and trade, (representing almost 60 per cent of the world population and 26 per cent of the world's agricultural exports), its ability to interact with other groupings in the World Trade Organization, and the capacity to translate a vast range of developing countries' interests into consistent proposals.
