Jordan's imports from Arab
Countries Rise
Amman, Aug. 29 (Petra)--Jordan's imports from Saudi Arabia rose by 38 percent in
the first third of this year to reach JD741.7 million compared to JD536.2
million in the same period of last year, according to the Central bank of Jordan
(CBJ).
Oil was Jordan's main import from Saudi Arabia during this period.
The CBJ's figures showed that Jordan's imports from Iraq in the first third of
2006 declined by 70 percent to reach JD2.3 million compared to JD7.7 million in
the same period of 2005.
Economic sources attributed this decline to the security situation in Iraq,
which hampered trade exchange since the occupation of Iraq.
The value of Jordan's imports from Iraq last year totaled JD19.6 million
compared to JD45.5 million in 2004, JD265.6 million in 2003 and JD532.4 million
in 2002.
Jordan's imports from Arab countries formed more than third of its total imports
in the first four months of this year to reach JD967.1 million.
The value of Jordan's imports from Arab countries in the first third of this
year stood at JD759.7 million.
