Muasher says team to visit
Israel for prisoner talks
AMMAN (JT) — Foreign Minister Marwan Muasher on Sunday said a Jordanian
delegation will head to Israel “soon” to conclude negotiations on the release of
25 citizens detained there.
“We are in direct contact with Israelis and the Red Cross to make sure of the
prisoners' well-being and to ensure their release,” Muasher told a joint press
conference with his German counterpart Joschka Fischer.
Muasher was quoted by Reuters as saying that the delegation was scheduled to
leave for the Jewish state weeks ago, but the trip was postponed upon an Israeli
request. Jordanian prisoners have joined thousands of Palestinian inmates in
Israeli jails on an open hunger strike in protest against their bad conditions.
