Jordan Achieves Highest
Rate in Combating Illiteracy in the Arab World
Amman, Sept. 7 (Petra)--Jordan will celebrate along with world countries the
World Day for Illiteracy Eradication on Friday.
Despite the fact that illiteracy eradication is still a major challenge on the
world level, Jordan made big strides in this field.
Jordan was able to achieve the lowest illiteracy rate on the level of the Arab
world.
According to figures of the General Statistics Department, the rate of
illiteracy in Jordan stands at 9.4 percent.
Under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Education Ministry
adopted the policy of continuous self-education and achieved a qualitative leap
in educational strategies designed to develop illiteracy eradication programs.
