King meets US Assistant
Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs William Burns
His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday meets US Assistant Secretary of State for
Near Eastern Affairs William Burns, who is touring the region. They reviewed
developments in the Palestinian territories, stressing the need to break the
cycle of violence and pave the way to peace talks, the Jordan News Agency,
Petra, reported. Burns briefed the King on the outcome of his tour and the US
stands on the Iraqi and Palestinian issues. Also yesterday, the King held talks
with Iranian Vice President for Physical Training Mohsen Mehr Alizadeh on
bilateral relations. King Abdullah told Alizadeh that relations with Iran "are
steadily moving ahead,” stressing that Jordan is keen to enhance them in all
fields, according to Petra. Alizadeh, who also chairs the Iranian Sports
Federation, met HRH Prince Faisal, president of the Jordan Olympic Committee,
and Prime Minister Faisal Fayez.
