Gov't pushes
ahead with computer training programme
By Khaled Nuaimat
AMMAN — A total of 265 government employees have
so far received training as part of the government's strategic partnership with
Microsoft (MS) to upgrade the performance of the public sector.
Minister of Information and Communication Technology Nadia Saeed and Jordan
E-government Initiative Director Khaldoun Naffa made the announcement on Sunday
during a press conference.
Saeed said the e-government programme is part of the public sector reform
process.
“The current training programme aims at contributing to the development of
government performance to further enhance human resources, competencies and
skills, and to motivate employees and enhance the private sector involvement in
such programmes,” said Saeed.
“Our goal is also to improve the computer skills among Jordanians to enhance
their chances in the labour market,” said Saeed,
The strategic partnership with MS, which began in 2002, is a comprehensive
programme that has included several programming services for government agencies
and training for public servants. Under the programme, which finishes at the end
of 2006, 1,000 government employees will receive training.
Microsoft signed both a framework agreement followed by a licensing agreement
with the government with the purpose of supporting public sector initiatives,
which include government, e-government and education.
The minister said that training government employees in the governorates and
remote areas of the Kingdom would be the ministry's next step.
She said this process would be planned in coordination with the other ministries
and departments.
