Muasher to attend Cairo meeting

CAIRO (Petra) — Minister of Foreign Affairs Marwan Muasher leaves for Cairo today to take part in an Arab foreign ministers' meeting scheduled for Sept. 15-16.

Muasher along with the other Arab foreign ministers will have closed-door consultations on Monday evening during a banquet hosted by Arab League Secretary General Amr Musa.

The meeting will focus on the 20-topic agenda prepared for the foreign ministers by the Arab countries' permanent representatives at the Arab League, the league spokesman, Husam Zaki, said.

The permanent representatives, who began their deliberations on Sunday, have grouped themselves into political, economic, legal, and financial committees to prepare the agenda.

Jordan's Ambassador in Cairo Hani Mulki is heading the Kingdom's delegation in the meeting.

The agenda, Zaki said, includes economic affairs, the Palestine issue and the stalled Middle East peace process, the situations in Iraq and Sudan, developing the league's various agencies and joint Arab countries' stand at the UN General Assembly meeting.

The Israeli nuclear threat to the Arab world and prospects for creating a Middle East region free of weapons of mass destruction are also listed for discussion.
