Jordan Times King discusses fight against terrorism with key leaders AMMAN (Petra) — His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday discussed with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and US Secretary of State Colin Powell the need to close ranks to fight terrorism following Tuesday's fatal attacks on Washington and New York.The Jordan News Agency, Petra, said the three leaders discussed the latest developments in the wake of the suicide attacks on the World Trade Centre towers and the Pentagon which resulted in thousands of deaths and the destruction of billions of dollars worth of property. “They agreed on the need to intensify international efforts to combat terrorism and its causes,” Petra said. King Abdullah said such terrorist acts which target civilians are alien to the teachings of the monotheistic religions and violate the world community's basic human values. Later on Thursday, King Abdullah received a written message from British Prime Minister Tony Blair concerning the terrorist attacks in which he underlined the need for stepping up combined European and international efforts against terrorism. King Abdullah also received a telephone call from the emir of Bahrain, Sheikh Hamad Ben Isa Al Khalifa, during which the two leaders exchanged views on several current issues in addition to bilateral relations. |
