Prince Talal named adviser to King
AMMAN (Petra) — His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday chaired a meeting of the National Security Council to discuss recent developments, the terrorist attacks in the United States and their impact at the regional and international level. Several decisions were taken in connection with the country's political and security situations. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Ali Abul Ragheb and Chief of the Royal Court Fayez Tarawneh.
Earlier, a Royal Decree was issued appointing HRH Prince Talal Ben Mohammad as special adviser to the King as of Sept. 16. Another Royal Decree was issued on Sunday appointing the Director of the General Intelligence Department General Saad Kheir as a rapporteur for the National Security Council.
Also Sunday, King Abdullah said in an interview with the American television network NBC that combatting terrorism is an international responsibility that requires combined efforts by the world's nations, stressing that the Arab world has been fighting terrorism in this region for several decades.
The King said there is a need to take the fight against terrorism to “another level.” He said such a new formula for combating terrorism would get the support of all Arab and Islamic countries which totally reject terrorism since Islam has no relation to terrorism. He added that terrorism is alien to the religious concepts of Muslims and Arabs around the world.
“We have to realise that what helps us to achieve success in fighting terrorism is finding a peaceful solution to the Palestinian- Israeli conflict as soon as possible,” said the King.
