Another Jordanian working in the WTC is missing

By Jumana Heresh

AMMAN — With almost a week since the attack on the World Trade Centre (WTC), fear of families awaiting news of their missing loved ones is hitting harder than ever.

Jordanian officials in Washington announced on Sunday that five Jordanians have been accounted for so far, escaping with minor injuries. Ramzi Doany, however, still remains missing, and another Jordanian has been declared missing by his family.

The family of Robert Elias Talhami, 36, father of two small children, have not heard from him since the tragic attack on the WTC last Tuesday.

Talhami, who graduated from Chicago State University in 1986, emigrated with his family to the US in 1967, and has been living abroad ever since.

“We have been very worried about Robert, our friends and family have been watching the news and reading the newspapers here and abroad hoping to hear something,” said Samir Talhami, Robert's youngest uncle who resides in Amman.

Robert, a stock broker working for the London-based company Cantor Fitzgerald, was reportedly in his office on the 80th floor of the WTC north tower at the time of the attack.

“Robert has been working with the company for 12 years and was transferred from London to New York only two months ago,” his uncle told The Jordan Times.

“Robert's brother George, who lives in Chicago, is now in New York searching the hospitals for any traces leading to his missing sibling,” he added.

Samir added that Cantor Fitzgerald has reported approximately 1,500 of its employees missing.

“Its very sad that something like this happened. Robert's eldest uncle, Nicola, who resides in London, has been on a 4,000-person waiting list to fly to New York with no luck so far,” he added.
