Militants release Jordanian
hostage
By Khalid Dalal
AMMAN — Militant kidnappers in Iraq released a Jordanian truck driver on
Thursday after his employer ceased operations in the neighbouring country, an
official said.
A Foreign Ministry spokesperson told the Jordan News Agency, Petra, that Turki
Khalifah Breizat, a 54-year-old father of eight, was freed by the kidnappers and
is currently at the embassy in Baghdad.
According to the official, the ministry made “intensive efforts” with its
diplomatic mission and notables of the western Iraqi city of Fallujah.
An official at Al Thahabiyyah Company for Land Transport, which employs Breizat,
told The Jordan Times that he received a phone call yesterday morning from the
kidnappers telling him that they decided to release the driver following the
firm's decision to halt its operations in Iraq.
