Aid convoy heads to Palestinian territories

The Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) on Sunday dispatched an aid convoy laden with foodstuff to the Palestinian territories, upon directives of His Majesty King Abdullah. The 14-truck convoy is carrying 8,825 20-kilogramme food parcels containing rice, sugar, tea, pasta, lentils and cooking oil, according to JHCO Secretary General Abdul Salam Abbadi. He added that the convoy will cross the King Hussein Bridge today in coordination with the Jordan Armed Forces Crises Management Centre and the Palestinian Authority. Abbadi said additional assistance will be sent to the Palestinians, who are facing a shortage of basic food items. The shipment was donated by several Arab charities as well as the JHCO, Abbadi said. He added that seven trucks will head to the West Bank, while the rest will go to the Gaza Strip.
