Interfaith seminar
focuses on religious pluralism
AMMAM (Petra) — An interfaith seminar held on Saturday focused on the
relationship between Christianity and Islam. The seminar, jointly organised by
the Arab Working Group on Muslim-Christian Dialogue and the US Institute of
Peace and Justice, discussed topics such as religion and pluralism and the
relationship between politics and religion. In a speech at the opening session,
Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Abdul Salam Abbadi outlined the efforts of
Al al Bayt Foundation for Islamic Thought and the Amman Message in promoting the
true image of Islam as a faith of moderation and tolerance. For his part, the
group's president, Abbas Halabi, stressed the need for Muslims and Christians to
understand each other in order to overcome the hatred and prejudice spread by
some in the name of religion.
