King confers with Chirac, Mubarak, Saleh

AMMAN (Petra) — His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday received a telephone call from French President Jacques Chirac during which the French leader briefed the King on the outcome of his latest talks with US President George W. Bush in the wake of the terror attacks on the New York World Trade Centre and the Pentagon.

King Abdullah and Chirac also reviewed the latest developments in the Palestinian territories following a ceasefire implemented by the Palestinian and Israeli sides on Tuesday.

The two leaders stressed the importance of unifying and collaborating all efforts in order to maintain the ceasefire to pave the way for the resumption of peace negotiations and to get the peace process back on track.

In an evening telephone call on Wednesday, King Abdullah and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak continued their deliberations on finding the means necessary to bring the suffering of the Palestinian people to an end. The two leaders reviewed ongoing efforts for the resumption of the peace process, pointing out the positive stance of the Palestinian leadership, its serious efforts to overcome the Palestinian-Israeli crisis and for the peace process to get back on track.

Also on Wednesday, King Abdullah and Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh reiterated the importance of Arab coordination with regard to current developments on the regional and international level. The two leaders, who conversed over the telephone, renewed their refusal of all forms of terrorism and called for efforts to help solve regional disputes, foremost of which was the Palestinian issue.
