Parliamentary delegation on Washington visit
AMMAN (JT) — A 12-member Parliament delegation is currently on an 11-day visit to the US. The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) and the Institute for Representative Government (IRG) in coordination with the embassy of Jordan in Washington, has organised a programme for the delegation, intended to provide participants with an understanding of the US Congress.
In particular, the programme will provide exposure to the role of political parties, legislative caucuses, legislative staff, advocacy groups and constituents in the democratic policy making process. The deputies met with Jordanian Ambassador Karim Kawar and discussed various domestic, regional and US-Jordanian bilateral issues. The MPs commended the programme and highlighted the importance of such exchanges between the two countries especially in light of the negative perception of the US in the region.
