CDFJ workshop on freedom and democracy begins
AMMAN (JT) — A 4-day workshop entitled “Messengers of Freedom and Democracy” began at the Dead Sea yesterday, under the patronage of Prime Minister Faisal Fayez. The workshop, organised by the Centre for Defending Freedom of Journalists (CDFJ), seeks to promote the concepts of democracy and human rights in the local community. Some 25 journalists, lawyers, artists and civil society activists are taking part in the activity, the second in a series of three workshops. CDFJ President Nidal Mansour said the event is designed to encourage effective participation with “messengers” promoting the ideas and values of freedom and democracy. A practical session at the UNESCO headquarters in Amman will follow each workshop, to promote Internet skills, and setting up campaigns, lobbies and conferences. The CDFJ was established early 1999 as a nonprofit civil organisation.
