Ahmed Hindawi selected as
Eisenhower Fellow
AMMAN (JT) — Eisenhower Fellowships announced the selection of Ahmed Hindawi,
director general of the Jordan Institution for Standards and Metrology (JISM) as
an Eisenhower Fellow.
Hindawi will participate in the 2005 Multi-Nation Programme, and will travel
throughout the United States on a fellowship constructed specifically to enable
him to pursue his interest in enhancing the quality and competitiveness of the
Jordanian economy and industrial infrastructure.
Hindawi will be joined by fellows representing 24 countries, from fields
including journalism, academia, business, arts, environment, medicine,
government, and education, according to statement released by the Jordanian
American Commission for Educational Exchange (Fullbright).
Eisenhower Fellows are selected based on criteria including: Demonstrated impact
in the professional field, active engagement in community activities, motivation
to make a difference, enthusiasm for continued learning, ability of fellowship
to significantly enhance leadership strength and impact, and potential for
advanced leadership and societal impact.
The Fellowships' 1,500 alumni include four heads of government, and hundreds who
have served at cabinet level or higher, as legislators, governors, supreme court
judges, and ambassadors.
Hundreds of other have top leadership positions as corporate and NGO CEOs,
university presidents, and community leaders. They regularly consult with other
fellows and with other members of the Eisenhower network, the statement said.
Eisenhower Fellowships is a private, nonprofit, non-partisan organisation
seeking to foster international understanding and leadership through the
exchange of information, ideas, and perspectives among emerging leaders
throughout the world.
Created in 1953 as a birthday tribute to President Dwight D. Eisenhower,
Eisenhower Fellowships has sponsored more than 1,500 fellows from more than 100
countries. Jordan has partnered with Eisenhower Fellowships since 1964, and more
than 17 Fellows from the Kingdom have participated to date.
