King receives 'Golden
Helmsmen of Tourism' delegation
AMMAN (Petra) — His Majesty King Abdullah yesterday received Jone Bernabei,
president of Golden Helmsmen of Tourism and the accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, the King stressed his support for the efforts exerted by the
association in adopting innovative methods that reflect the tourism features of
the association's various member countries, highlighting the importance of the
tourism sector and its active role in the sustainable development process.
The King's Adviser Aqel Beltaji and Minister of Tourism and Antiquities and
Minister of Environment Alia Bouran attended Sunday's meeting.
Bernabei commended the King's efforts in strengthening the concepts of peace
among nations, especially through tourism. She reviewed the association's
programmes that focus on promoting tourism cooperation between various countries
and supporting the public and private sectors to adopt ideas that would help
promote tourism.
The association's branch in Jordan will present the Golden Helmsmen awards for
excellence to the public and private Jordanian tourism sectors.
The association is organising a tour of archaeological sites in the Kingdom for
35 experts in order to promote tourism.
The Rome-based association, which includes the membership of several Arab and
European countries, will hold its annual meeting today to coincide with the
launch of the National Strategy for Tourism and the celebration of the World
Tourism Day.
