‘Jordanians spend more than they earn’Khatib highlights need to prepare for peace conference

NEW YORK (Petra) - Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdul Ilah Khatib on Wednesday stressed the need for preparations for the upcoming US-proposed international Mideast peace conference. During a meeting attended by foreign ministers of the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, Egypt and the US, Khatib underscored the need for serious efforts to seize the existing opportunity to achieve peace in the region. He also underlined the importance of the role of key Islamic countries in pushing forward the peace process. Discussions also focused on ways to achieve security and stability in Iraq. On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings in New York, Khatib also met with several foreign ministers from different countries with whom he discussed regional developments and means to enhance bilateral ties.
