King Meets US Senate Leaders

Washington, Sep. 28(Petra)--His Majesty King Abdullah II met early Friday morning (Amman local time) in Washington leaders of the US Senate from the Republican and Democratic Parties and discussed the latest developments in the wake of the terrorist attacks on the US, the Middle East peace process and bilateral ties.

The King offered his condolences and the condolences of the people and government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the American people through their representatives in the Senate over the deaths resulting from the terrorist attacks. In line with Jordan's principles and its Islamic tolerant faith, His Majesty stressed Jordan's condemnation for the attacks.

He warned against attempts by some to link violation and terrorism with Islam, pointing out that Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance that condemns the killing of innocents.

The King voiced appreciation for the Senate's unanimous endorsement of the Free Trade Agreement which will open the largest market in the world in front of Jordanian exports, will help in attracting investments to Jordan and create new jobs.

Senate leaders voiced appreciation for Jordan's role under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II to build peace and stability in the region, hailing the economic policies adopted by Jordan and affirming the Senate's support for Jordan in his endeavour to achieve reform and improve economic performance.
