Tourism Ministry officials to
begin training session
AMMAN (JT) — Senior officials at the Ministry of Tourism will today begin a
three-day training session to help them chart an efficient course to implement
the National Tourism Strategy launched earlier this week.
Experts from the USAID-funded AMIR Programme who contributed to the strategy's
formulation, will be guiding ministry staff on charting programmes and policies
to execute the strategy's various components.
Ministry Secretary General Sultan Abu Jaber said such training was necessary and
would provide staff with a platform to discuss the strategy openly and recommend
new input.
The National Tourism Strategy, unveiled on Monday, expects to boost visitor
numbers to 20 million from now until 2010.
The tourist influx is expected to generate around JD1.3 billion in revenue for
the Kingdom.
Based on four pillars, the strategy calls for greater investment in human
resource training for employees in the tourism sector, development of
tourism-related infrastructure, improving the quality of tourism products and
enhancing marketing of the Kingdom overseas.
Abu Jaber said told his senior staff member they held extensive knowledge of the
industry and urged that they use their experience to continue enhancing
relations with other partners involved in tourism development.
