Zarqa targeted for new
infrastructure projects
AMMAN (Petra) — His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday announced a series of new
infrastructure projects including the construction of a new hospital in the
eastern part of Zarqa and new equipment to upgrade services in the governorate's
other hospitals.
Speaking at a meeting held at the Royal Court with notables from Zarqa
Governorate, the King said work on the design of the hospital would start soon
and stressed that these projects will contribute to the governorate's
development.
The King said he has already directed the government to increase allocations in
the coming two fiscal years to finance projects designed to reduce the level of
poverty and unemployment whilst at the same time improve the governorate's
infrastructure.
As part of the new projects, wastewater treatment plants will be set up and
solutions will be found for environmental problems, especially in the Zarqa
River basin, the King explained, adding that the government will pursue efforts
to raise funds to improve the water and sewerage systems.
King Abdullah told the audience that the Ministry of Education will soon embark
on a project for developing education at the governorate's schools and terminate
the two-shift school system, while concerned authorities will build public
gardens for the benefit of the governorate's children.
Once again the King reiterated the importance of involving the youth in the
Kingdom's development process, stressing the importance of vocational training
programmes which further employment prospects.
