Fund will promote technical and vocational training

By Oula Al Farawati

AMMAN — This month the Cabinet is expected to pass a special bylaw to create a vocational and technical training support fund for training initiatives by both the public and private sectors.

The bylaw will be annexed to the temporary law governing the Council for Vocational and Technical Training, which was recently approved by the government, Muzahem Muhaisin, director general of the Vocational Training Corporation, told The Jordan Times.

He said that any company wishing to start a training project or a programme to upgrade the qualifications of its staff will be able to obtain finances from the fund.

An annual deduction of one per cent of the taxable income of private companies will be used to finance the fund. “Training is a national effort that should be contributed to by all,” said Muhaisin, commenting that such responsibilities have, until now, been borne by the government alone.

He also noted that the private sector has been the main beneficiary of government-sponsored vocational training projects.

“Thus, they should effectively participate in our efforts.”

A special management unit will be set up to supervise the project. It will include representatives from both the private and the public sectors.
