King entrusts Queen with role of President of National Council for Family Affairs

AMMAN (Petra) — His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday entrusted Her Majesty Queen Rania with the task of serving as president of the National Council for Family Affairs in appreciation of her efforts and key role in directing the society towards giving attention to the Jordanian family and meeting its needs.

In a message to the Queen, King Abdullah underlined the importance of coordinating government efforts with those of the private sector organisations concerned with family affairs.

“The last two decades of the 20th century witnessed tangible developments in giving due care to the Jordanian citizen and the Jordanian family, being the basic cell that builds a strong society in the face of challenges and rapid socio-economic developments which have had their impact on and which contributed to changes in Jordan's social and economic life,” the King said.

Noting that a great number of government and private institutions have taken initiatives in this direction, the King said: “These efforts should be pooled within an institutional framework to act under one umbrella, combining all experiences and expertise to define the priorities for the Jordanian family and the needs of its members, while safeguarding national traditions and norms.”

“Now that the law on the National Council for Family Affairs for 2001 has been endorsed, it is hoped that it will guarantee the aspired improvements in the living standards of Jordanian families. In order to achieve that goal, the council should draw up the appropriate policies and plans and follow up on their implementation.

“Acting from our keenness to consolidate efforts for ensuring healthy growth and protection for our children, and in expressing our absolute appreciation of your humanitarian role and efforts to serve the Jordanian family, I entrust you with the presidency of the National Council for Family Affairs,” the King added.

He wished the Queen and the council members success in their endeavour to serve the Jordanian family and achieve the aspired security and prosperity.
