AMMAN, Oct 8 (Reuters) - Jordan, a key Arab ally of the United States, gave its full backing to U.S.-led strikes against Afghanistan on Monday but said the war against terrorism must also focus of resolving the Middle East conflict.
It was the first statement from an Arab government giving unqualified support to the military campaign in Afghanistan which was launched on Sunday.
"The Jordanian government reiterates its support to the international effort to combat terrorism while stressing importance of sparing the Afghan people human losses among innocent civilians," the government said in a statement.
It said military force should not be the only means used to eradicate terrorism.
"It should also include resolving issues and basic reasons that cause frustration in our region which means reaching a just solution to the Palestinian issue based on the resolutions of the international legitimacy," the statement said.
The United States and Britain on Sunday used cruise missiles and warplanes against Afghanistan, which is sheltering Osama bin Laden, chief suspect in last months attacks on America that left thousands dead.
The government said Jordan rejected "terrorist action" regardless of any justifications and stressed Arabs and Muslims should not be held responsible for "criminal activities" by a militant group.
It also warned "any side from trying to hurt the national Jordanian security or the kingdom's stability."
Jordan has said in the past that it had foiled a number of "terrorist" attacks planned by suspected followers of bin Laden.
