No going back in implementation of political development — premier

AMMAN (Petra) — Prime Minister Faisal Fayez stressed Sunday that security and stability are the basis for the Kingdom's economic and social development.

At a meeting with representatives of parliamentary blocs at the Prime Ministry, Fayez voiced confidence in security establishments, paying tribute to their role in safeguarding stability.

He added that “a small number” of the members of the security establishments violate the law, stressing that they would receive the “maximum” punishment.

“The law applies to all without exception and there is no one above the law,” Fayez told legislators at the meeting, convened to discuss disputes between the government and some political currents and their representatives at Parliament.

He stressed the need for such meetings to enhance continued cooperation between the executive and legislative authorities seeking ultimately to serve national interests.

Fayez noted that he would deal with all parties as long as they are working to serve these national interests.

He also emphasised that there will be no going back in the implementation of political development which, he said, encompasses administrative, judicial, cultural, political, educational and legal reforms. Political reform also includes economic development and calls for greater participation by women and the youth, he said.

As the government supports educating university students politically, it would not tolerate moving tribal and political disputes onto campuses and would not allow politicising education in a manner that would undermine the educational process, Fayez said.

Parliamentary blocs represented at the meeting presented a memo to the premier on developments on the local scene.

The memo, read at the meeting by Lower House of Parliament Speaker Abdul Hadi Majali, stressed the need to safeguard the Constitution, apply the law and ensure that no party violates it.
