Zu’bi commends agreement
with US, QIZs for higher trade and investments
Industry and Trade Minister Sharif Zu’bi told participants in a conference on
economic developmen in the Middle East that the Jordan-US Free Trade Agreement
has increased bilateral trade to $624 million in 2005 from $244 million in 2000.
He indicated that the Qualifying Industrial Zones (QIZ) attracted $720 million
in investments and provided 54,000 job opportunities to Jordanians and
foreigners. According to Zu’bi, the Arab world is currently in need of reforms
to solve economic problems such as unemployment and illiteracy.
