Education Ministry
receives 18 new school buildings
AMMAN (JT) — The Ministry of Education has received 18 new school buildings
capable of accommodating more than 1,000 students to reduce overcrowding at the
Kingdom's schools. Ministry Spokesperson Ayman Barakat told The Jordan Tines
that some of these schools, which are currently being furnished and equipped,
will open this semester while the rest will be operational by next semester.
“The new buildings will help reduce the double-shift system at some schools,
which is frustrating for teachers and students. It will also decrease the
ministry's dependence on rented buildings,” said Barakat. Currently, 11 per cent
of the Kingdom's 3,167 schools are rented at a cost of JD2.5 million annually,
Barakat added. He added that the ministry will receive 60 new schools in 2006.
