King, Yemeni president seek to enhance ties
AMMAN (Petra) — His Majesty King Abdullah and
Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh on Sunday held talks on bilateral relations
and regional developments.
During talks in Sanaa, King Abdullah and Saleh agreed on the meeting of the
Jordanian-Yemeni Higher Committee early next year to enhance cooperation in the
economic, health, education and other fields. The King, who returned yesterday
after a several-hour trip, discussed with the Yemeni president means to boost
trade volume and transport cooperation as well as activate bilateral agreements.
The two leaders also discussed joint projects, including a Red Sea fishing
company, which seeks, in cooperation with the King Abdullah Development Fund, to
provide Jordanian fishermen with jobs in the Yemeni waters. Meanwhile, King
Abdullah and Saleh held talks on developments in the Palestinian territories and
Iraq.
They stressed the importance of reviving the peace process and help Palestinians
and Israelis resume negotiations after the withdrawal from Gaza.
They also reiterated their support for Iraq to restore its stability and
preserve unity.
The King and the Yemeni president also highlighted the need to activate the role
of the Arab League and improve its work mechanisms.
Royal Court Chief Faisal Fayez, Deputy Director of National Security and acting
Director of the King's Office Marouf Bakhit, Foreign Minister Farouq Qasrawi and
the Kingdom's Ambassador to Yemen Ahmad Jaradat attended the meeting.
