Jaafari to visit Jordan
Thursday
AMMAN (AFP) — Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari will make a landmark visit to
Jordan on Thursday aimed at bolstering political and economic ties between the
two neighbours, a government spokesman said.
Jaafari, on his first visit to Amman, is expected to hold talks with King
Abdullah, Prime Minister Adnan Badran and senior officials.
Badran made a landmark visit to Baghdad in September, becoming the first Arab
leader to visit Iraq since the fall of the Saddam regime in April 2003.
On October 1, Iraqi Interior Minister Bayan Bagher Solagh visited Amman and
signed an agreement to strengthen border security between the two countries in
the fight against “terrorism and organised crime.”
Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, a Kurd, came to Amman in May and also met King
Abdullah in September on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
