Prince of Wales begins 4-day visit to Kingdom

AMMAN (JT) — HRH The Prince of Wales arrived yesterday in Amman on a four-day working visit on the last leg of a tour that has already taken him to Turkey and Italy.

His visit, at the invitation of Their Majesties King Abdullah and Queen Rania, will include trips to development projects and educational and cultural programmes being implemented in the Kingdom, which receive financial and technical support from various British institutions. He is also scheduled to tour various prominent attractions and historical sites in the Kingdom.

HRH Prince Ghazi Ben Mohammad, the King's Private Adviser and Personal Envoy, and British Ambassador Christopher Prentice received Prince Charles upon his arrival at the airport.

“This visit will reinforce the strong links that exist between our two countries and, in particular, the warm personal links between our two royal families. There will be many opportunities during the visit for His Royal Highness to see for himself some of the exciting developments happening in Jordan. His visit will focus on youth opportunity, conservation and the environment, archaeology, urban regeneration and the role of traditional architecture,” Prentice said in a statement released by the British embassy.

The Prince attended a reception on Tuesday evening at the British ambassador's residence. Representatives from INJAZ, the Princess Basma Youth Resource Centre and the Higher Council for Youth had the opportunity to talk to His Royal Highness about their entrepreneurship programmes.

Prince Charles also met a group of Chevening scholars and representatives of various organisations active in the promotion of British-Jordanian relations.
