Jordan Takes Part in the 6th
International Conference on New Democracies
Doha, Oct. 31 (Petra)—The Jordanian delegation taking part in the 6th
International Conference on New Democracies in the Qatari capital Doha, reviewed
Jordan’s political and economic reform march which include modernizing
legislations, expanding political participation and activating the role of youth
and women in the political life.
Secretary General of the Ministry of Political Development Bashir Rawashdeh, who
is leading the Jordanian delegation to the conference, reviewed in a speech the
legislations that have been approved recently.
These legislations are related to human rights in addition to the comprehensive
development program adopted by Jordan in computerizing education, and
accomplishments that have been achieved by Jordan in the fields of investment
and press freedom.
Rawashdeh noted Jordan’s peace keeping efforts on the international level,
noting that 40,000 Jordanian peace keepers are taking part in peace keeping
missions around the world.
He also touched on the national programs and plans that are designed to develop
political parties' work and enhance the participation of the civil society and
the media in the national program for development.
He said Jordan has accomplished about 94 legislations through cooperation
between the legislative and executive authorities in the fields of human rights,
security, stability, social welfare, political development and investment
environment.
Foreign ministers, government officials, heads of parliaments and social
organizations from 192 countries will be part of the meeting. Participants in
the conference will discuss issues related to democracy, political reform, and
effective governance, the role of democracy in development and combating
poverty, as well as freedom of speech.
