US, Algerian ambassadors
present credentials to King
AMMAN (JT) — The US and Algerian ambassadors to Jordan presented their
credentials to His Majesty King Abdullah at Basman Palace on Monday.
David Hale, a career diplomat, has been the charge d'affaires, ad interim, at
the US mission in Amman since July 12, 2004, prior to which he was deputy chief
of mission. He previously served as the US State Department's director of the
office of Israel and Palestinian affairs, deputy chief of mission at the US
embassy in Beirut, and executive assistant to the secretary of state. His tours
of duty were the US mission to the UN, Beirut, Amman, Manama and Dhahran. He
also held several staff positions in the US State Department.
Hale joined the foreign service in 1984 and studied Arabic at the Foreign
Service Institute's Field School in Tunisia. He is a graduate of Georgetown
University's School of Foreign Service and a permanent resident of Princeton,
New Jersey. Hale was sworn in as ambassador to Jordan during a private ceremony
at the US embassy on Monday.
At the Royal Court, Ambassador Hale laid wreaths at the tombs of King Hussein
Ben Talal, King Abdullah I, and King Talal Ben Abdullah.
Ali Arouje also presented his credentials to the King on Monday as Algeria's
ambassador to Jordan. Arouje's tours of duty include diplomatic missions in
Germany and Lebanon. He served in the Algerian ministry of foreign affairs for
the last four years, including one year as chief of staff. Ambassador Arouje is
originally from Algiers and holds a degree from l'Ecole Nationale
d'Administration in France.
