Badran
pays Kingdom's respects to Akkad's family
JABER CROSSING (Petra) — Prime Minister Adnan Badran paid the Kingdom's respects
yesterday to the family of Syrian-born filmmaker Moustapha Akkad, who died as a
result of injuries sustained during Wednesday night's suicide attack in the
capital's Grand Hyatt Hotel.
Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, the premier accompanied the funeral
motorcade from Amman to the Syrian border.
Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Attari and other officials received the cortege
at the Jaber Crossing on the Jordan-Syria border.
Minister of Culture Amin Mahmoud later represented the Kingdom at the funeral of
Akkad in the northern Syrian town of Aleppo where Akkad was born.
Akkad, who was 75, died on Friday. His daughter Rita, 34, died in the same
explosion.
Akkad, who lived in Los Angeles, is best known for producing all eight films in
the “Halloween” series, however, his most creative efforts showed in “ The
Message” (1977) and “Lion of the Desert” (1981), two dramas about the history of
Islam.
Attari told Badran during a brief meeting that the people and government of
Syria condemn the terror attacks in Amman. He offered his condolences on behalf
of the Syrian government to the families of victims.
