Badran outlines support for Iraq's political process
Prime Minister Adnan Badran yesterday underlined
Jordan's support for Iraq's political process and commended the role of the UN
in assisting the Iraqi people to rebuild their nation.
Badran, who made the remarks during a meeting with UN envoy to Iraq Ashraf Qadi,
said it is vital to involve all factions in the ongoing political process.
Referring to the security measures in place at the Jordanian-Iraqi border posts,
Badran said the present security procedures were necessary to prevent any
infiltration.
Qadi, meanwhile, expressed his condolences over the loss of life in last
Wednesday's bomb attacks and pledged the UN's support for the Arab
League-sponsored initiative for reconciling the various Iraqi factions, a
process, he said, would contribute to the restoration of Iraq's
security and stability.
Also on Tuesday, the prime minister chaired a meeting of the Development and
Employment Fund, which offers financial aid and loans to disadvantaged families
to help them secure a livelihood.
In remarks at the meeting, Badran called for a national strategy to pool the
resources of the country's loan institutions to prevent any overlaps in aid
provision.
The fund's director, Ali Ghzawi, said his department has created 32,000 job
opportunities by providing JD69.5 million for small- and medium-size projects
since its establishment in 1991.
