JVA extends deadline for land leases
By Saad G. Hattar
AMMAN The Jordan Valley Authority (JVA) has extended for another two weeks an Oct. 15 deadline for the lease of land plots for touristic investments, along the Dead Sea shore.
The delivery period for the investors' proposals has been extended until Nov. 30, in accordance to the potential bidders' request, said JVA Secretary General Avedis Serpekian.
Serpekian told the Jordan Times on Sunday that potential investors had asked for extra time to fill up evaluation forms provided by the JVA.
So far, according to Serpekian, 65 bidders expressed their interest in setting up touristic projects.
It was the second deadline extension, bringing the total bidding span to two months. The initial deadline had been scheduled to end on Oct. 31.
Serpekian explained that an ad hoc committee will take two weeks to evaluate the bids afterwards.
On Oct. 10, 61 potential investors toured the eastern strip of the Dead Sea and were briefed on the locations, merits and conditions of the various plots that are for lease.
The guided tour was designed to acquaint potential bidders with the features of the plots.
In October, the JVA and the water minister floated tenders for the lease of 8 plots of land with a total area of 440 dunums along the eastern shore for touristic projects.
The touristic projects fall within an overall investment Master Plan of $1 billion, along a six-kilometre zone with high-standard infrastructure.
Envisaged projects in the plots, whose areas range from 10-69 dunums, include five-star hotels, tourist villages, boat stations, golf courses and health centres.
